How to enable the PM8000 to log basic measurements (such as voltage, current, and power)

Issue:

When integrating a new PM8000 source into a power monitoring network for data logging, basic measurements like voltage, current and power are not recording on the device. As a result, they are not available in PME or other software. For example, basic voltage and current are noticeably missing when attempting to select them as measurements for a report on a PM8000 device in PME Web Applications.

Environment:

Hardware & Software

Cause:

By default, a new PM8000 power meter does not certain record basic measurements (such as voltage, current, and power).

Resolution:

Please see the following link to view what is already logged by default: PM8000 - Default Logging Configuration

1.To configure the PM8000 to log measurements, you must utilize Schneider Electric's ION Setup software. The link to download the latest version can be found here: ION Setup Latest Release | Schneider Electric

2. Once the ION Setup software is applied to a server that can communicate with the PM8000 device, the device must be configured within ION Setup. ION Setup will identify the machine at the main menu, and it will be populated under "System" in the top left corner of ION Setup. Right click on the machine name and select "Insert Item...":

3. Once the PM8000 device is configured correctly in ION Setup, hold the Control button on the keyboard and left-click on the PM8000 device. This will populate the advanced meter menu. Find "Data Rec Modules" in the advanced meter menu and click into it:

Here is the Data Rec Module menu populated:

    4. Notice how there is no module that implies it is recording basic voltage, current and power. Create a module by right-clicking on the right side of the screen and selecting "Insert Module."

    5. A module named "Date Rec ##" should populate. Right-click on it to open properties and provide a custom name that is relevant to the measurement you wish to record. Although this article focuses on basic voltage, current and power, you can do this for any measurements the device is capable of recording.

    6. Once your new Data Recorder Module has been renamed (for this article, we renamed "Date Rec 15" to "V, I, & kW."), double left-click on the module to open the Inputs menu where the module can be configured to record voltage, current and power. To begin, select "Source 1" and click "Edit..." to choose the measurement to record.

    7. Once the Edit button is clicked, the following menu below should appear. For voltage, current and power, all measurements should be located in the Output Registers Tree under Power Meter Modules > Power Meter. In the screenshot below, you can observe voltage. If you continue to scroll, current and power measurements can also be found.

    8. Select the measurement you wish to add as a source. You can modify all sources from this menu. Once you are finished linking sources, click "OK." You should now see your inputs menu again where you can view all sources selected for the data recorder module:

For this example, voltage line-to-line, phase current, both of their averages, phase power, and total power have all been selected to be recorded. Click send to update the meter to record this. Once the new configuration is successfully sent, you will now be able to see data logs of voltage, current and power from the PM8000.
