Why Can I Connect to the Modicon Edge I/O NTS but Cannot Download a Configuration?

This behavior is typically caused by a version compatibility mismatch between the Modicon Edge I/O firmware and the Edge I/O Configurator version being used.

In Control Expert v16.2, the integrated Edge I/O Configurator is based on an older version. As a result, if the Network Interface Module (NIM) firmware has been upgraded to a newer revision, you may still be able to:

  • Connect to the Edge I/O system
  • View and monitor device status
  • Access diagnostic information

However, downloading a new configuration to the NIM is not supported because the older configurator version does not fully support the newer firmware.

This limitation has been highlighted in the Modicon Edge I/O NTS Modicon Edge I/O Configurator Release Notes, page 19.
