Sepam 2000 - how to check if FIP-ISIS or Modbus/Jbus communication is installed.
Sepam 2000 relays could have been installed with either the FIP-ISIS communication option or the Jbus / Modbus option. In some cases, if the end-user has never used their communication module, they may not be aware of which option was ordered. Additionally, some of the older Sepam 2000 documentation does not provide clear photos that allow users to distinguish between these 2 options.
This FAQ gives some details that will help users who are less familiar with Sepam 2000 to distinguish between the 2 options, in case the communication option needs to be modified. Spare parts will soon be discontinued for the Sepam 2000, but our knowledge base contains a document which explains how to install a new communication board on the Sepam 2000.
1) FIP-ISIS Option
This option was primarily used for communication with PLC's. When connecting with the TSM2001 pocket terminal, under the "Communication" menu, the "FIP-ISIS" option should be displayed. Also, you should not see standard baud rates that are used with Modbus communication, such as 9600bps or 19200bps. The photos below show that the port on the back of the Sepam is a DB9 "male" port, and that the communication board has a specific part number (near the MG symbol). You can also see a photo showing the menu that should be displayed in the TSM2001 pocket terminal if the FIP-ISIS option is installed.
2) Modbus / Jbus option
This option was more common and could be used with any RS-485 Modbus master such as the PowerLogic EGX400 gateways. In the "Communication" menu of the TSM2001 pocket terminal, the "Jbus" option should be displayed, and you should be able to see baud rates such as 9600 or 19200. The photos below show the port on the back of the Sepam as well as the communication board part number.
