Coupling switch requirement in DRS architectures
DRS architectures that require Main Ring / Sub Ring redundant connections (coupling switches) must be of the same type of switch.

The example shows a C7 master and a C8 slave configuration for DRS function, with the main ring copper ports and RIO subring ports copper. In this case, both switches must be of same type, either Connexium or Modicon.  They cannot be mixed types, that is, one Connexium and the other Modicon.

Other switches in the ring can be mixed but the coupled pair (Master/Slave) MUST be the same brand type as shown below.

DRS Modicon-Connexium example

Main Ring / Sub-Ring Redundant Connections - General Information
Use 2 DRSs (one installed with a master predefined configuration and the other installed with a corresponding slave predefined configuration) to provide a redundant connection between the main ring and the sub-ring. The master DRS passes data between the main ring and the sub-ring. If the master DRS becomes inoperable, the slave DRS takes control and passes data between the main ring and the sub-ring.
