Why RemoteConnect May Seem to Fail to Launch in Windows

If RemoteConnect is showing in the Windows Taskbar or Task Manager, but not showing on a display monitor, the issue could be with Windows settings. To correct this issue, on your PC keyboard, press the SHIFT key, then right-click on the RemoteConnect application in the Taskbar and select 'Restore' or 'Maximize'. Alternatively, right-click the application in the Taskbar and select 'Restore' or 'Maximize'.

If RemoteConnect is not showing up in the Taskbar or Task Manager, other issues may cause RemoteConnect from not loading. Check the Windows log under Event Viewer for details on why Windows will not launch RemoteConnect.

Additional information:

When switching from a multi-monitor setup to a single monitor, applications may open on a "virtual" screen that's no longer physically displayed. This can be due to applications remembering their last position from the previous multi-monitor configuration.

Here's how to address this issue:

1. Move the application to the main monitor:

  • Right-click the application's taskbar icon: This will allow you to view a preview of the application's window.
  • Right-click the preview: This will open a menu with options.
  • Select "Move": This will change your mouse cursor to a moving icon.
  • Use the cursor keys to move the window to the main monitor: You can use the arrow keys (left, right, up, down) to shift the window's location until it's visible on your main screen.
  • Press Enter to confirm the move: This will finalize the application's new position.

2. If "Move" is grayed out:

  • Click "Restore": This will restore the application's window to a non-maximized state.
  • Right-click the taskbar icon again and select "Move": The "Move" option should now be available.
  • Follow the previous steps to move the window: Use the cursor keys and press Enter to confirm the move.

3. Addressing the underlying issue:

  • Check display settings: Ensure that your monitors are correctly identified and configured within Windows display settings.
  • Update graphics drivers: Outdated drivers can cause display issues. Check the website of your computer's hardware manufacturer for the latest drivers Microsoft Community says.
  • Update Windows: Ensure your Windows operating system is up-to-date.
  • Disable Transient Multi-Monitor Manager (TMM): This can be found in Task Scheduler and may be interfering with display settings Learn Microsoft says.
  • Consider resetting display settings: You can reset Windows display settings to their defaults.

4. Workarounds:

  • Ensure applications are not maximized:
  • Maximized windows can sometimes have issues with remembering their position across different monitor
