Galaxy VX UPS Static Switch Fan Behavior: Full-Speed Activation Scenarios
The fans in the static switch section of a Galaxy VX UPS may run at full speed due to several operational or fault-related conditions. Here are the most common reasons:
Reasons for Fans Running at Full Speed in the Static Switch Section
-
High Internal Temperature
- The fans ramp up to full speed when the temperature inside the static switch compartment exceeds a predefined threshold to prevent overheating and ensure safe operation.
-
Fan Failure or Imbalance
- If one or more fans fail or are removed (e.g., during maintenance), the remaining fans may compensate by running at full speed. This is a built-in redundancy feature.
-
Static Switch in Active Use
- When the UPS is operating in static bypass mode (either commanded or due to inverter shutdown), the static switch handles the full load current. This increases heat generation, prompting the fans to run at maximum speed.
-
Forced Static Bypass Mode
- If the system is manually or automatically placed into forced static bypass, the load bypasses the inverter and goes directly through the static switch. This mode typically triggers full fan speed to manage the thermal load.
-
Environmental Conditions
- High ambient temperature or poor airflow around the UPS can cause the fans to operate at full speed to maintain internal cooling.
-
Firmware or Control Logic
- Certain firmware versions or control logic settings may default to full fan speed during specific operational states or diagnostics.
-
Startup or Self-Test Procedures
- During initial power-up or self-tests, fans may temporarily run at full speed to verify functionality or stabilize internal temperatures.
