This article outlines a known limitation in the PowerChute Network Shutdown Windows installer. The issue affects the handling of some UTF-8 special characters when entering passwords during installation. This can cause login failures after the installation.

Cause:
During the installation of PowerChute Network Shutdown, passwords containing UTF-8 special characters may be accepted in the installer UI, but they are not correctly interpreted. This can result in login failures after installation.
UTF-8 characters misinterpreted by Installer:
• Unicode punctuation eg:
• – — “ ” ‘
• Non-ASCII currency eg: € ¥ ₹ ₩
• Accented characters eg: é ñ ü ç
• Mathematical symbols eg: √ ∞ ∑ ≤ ≥ ≈
• Non-Latin scripts eg: مرحبا) Arabic), Привет (Russian)
• Emoji
• UTF-8 encoded control chars eg: U+200B, U+202E UTF-8
Solution:
• Use only ASCII characters in passwords during installation.
• Avoid accented letters, symbols, emojis, or non-Latin scripts.
• If UTF-8 characters are required for security policies, you can change the password using the PowerChute Setup Wizard or via the INI file after installation.
Characters supported by Installer:
• ASCII letters/digits eg: a-z, A-Z, 0-9
• Basic symbols e.g.: !@#$%^&*()
