SMC models, all serial numbers



Cause:

APC UPS batteries typically last 3 to 5 years under normal use. For best performance and reliability, it’s recommended to replace the battery within this timeframe and not exceed five (5) years. Replacing the battery on time helps ensure your UPS continues to provide dependable backup power during outages. Keeping the battery fresh helps protect your equipment and avoid unnecessary downtime. After replacing the battery on an SMC model UPS, the user should update the UPS configuration to confirm that a new battery has been installed. This allows the system to monitor the battery accurately and maintain optimal performance.



Resolution:

To update the battery replacement on SMC models, enter Configuration Mode by pressing and holding the MUTE and MENU buttons together for 2 seconds. The UPS will beep briefly, and the display will flash to confirm it has entered Configuration Mode.

When in Configuration Mode, press the MENU button to go through the available options until you see "rb.0", which means the battery has not been replaced.

Press the MUTE button to change the setting to "rb.1", which confirms the battery has been replaced and resets the UPS to use the default settings for a new battery.
