What is PowerChute Link and How Do I Connect My APC Back-UPS to SmartConnect Cloud Monitoring?

Issue:
User wants to know how to remotely monitor and manage a compatible APC Back-UPS through the EcoStruxure IT SmartConnect cloud platform using PowerChute Link.

NOTE: PowerChute Link is currently NOT available in the USA, Canada, Costa Rica, India, Mainland China, or Japan.

Product Line:
APC Back-UPS Models (BK, BR, BE, BX Series with USB Communication Port)
PowerChute Serial Shutdown (PCSS) v 1.6 or later
EcoStruxure™ IT SmartConnect

Environment/Requirement:

• Compatible APC Back-UPS connected via USB
• PowerChute Serial Shutdown v1.6 or later
• Active internet connection
• PowerChute Link subscription (or free 30-day trial)
• Active EcoStruxure IT SmartConnect account

Cause:
PowerChute Link requires a compatible APC Back-UPS model, PowerChute Serial Shutdown software, internet connectivity and an active PowerChute Link subscription or trial. Users may not be aware of these prerequisites before attempting to connect their UPS to SmartConnect. Additionally, PowerChute Link is not currently available in the USA, Canada, Costa Rica, India, Mainland China, or Japan.

Resolution:
PowerChute Link allows supported Back-UPS devices to send UPS status and monitoring data to the EcoStruxure IT SmartConnect cloud platform through PowerChute Serial Shutdown. This enables remote monitoring and management of the UPS from virtually anywhere.

Before creating a PowerChute Link connection:

1. Verify that your Back-UPS model is supported (BK, BR, BE, or BX series with a USB communication port).
2. Install PowerChute Serial Shutdown version 1.6 or later.
3. Ensure the computer hosting PowerChute Serial Shutdown can access:
   1. https://smartconnect.apc.com via web browser
   2. Direct connection to TCP port 443 on connectivity.prod.struxurewarecloud.com and cnm-ih-na.azure-devices.net.
4. Create a PowerChute Link connection and sign up for a subscription or start the free 30-day trial.
