Issue:
Using taps on backfed Transformers
Product Line:
LV Transformers
Environment:
Applies to Transformers by SquareD/Schneider Electric
Cause:
Backfeeding on Transformers must be done with recognition of certain limitations
Resolution:
Taps are placed on the primary side of a Transformer to compensate for poor (other than nominal) incoming voltage, allowing the Transformer to operate at it`s designed magnetic flux levels in the core. When backfeeding the Transformer, the magnetic flux level in the core cannot be optimized, since the secondary which is now being fed has no taps to adjust. When backfeeding, it is best to not use the taps on the primary set at anything but nominal (rated) voltage level.
