How can we help you today?
Why will HOM circuit breakers sometimes trip when turning on HPS (high pressure sodium) lights?
Issue:
Why do HPS lights trip low amperage HOM breakers?

Product Line:
Miniature Circuit Breakers

Resolution:
Each HPS fixture has a transformer to generate the high voltage needed to keep an arc going inside the bulb. This transformer draws a huge amount of inrush current when energized. The current can be 10 to 20 times the operating current. This inrush can cause the breaker to trip on its instantaneous function.
The solution is to replace the HOM115 or the HOM120 breakers with HOM115HM or HOM120HM high magnetic breakers. These are designed for high inrush circuits.
