What should be remembered about cable entry and exit direction for HVL/cc switchgear?
Issue:
What should be remembered about cable entry and exit direction for HVL/cc switchgear?

Product Line:
Switchboards and Switchgear

Environment:
Medium Voltage Switchgear

Cause:
Application.

Resolution:
Cable direction is more critical for HVL/cc switchgear than for HVL switchgear. Outdoor N3R HVL/cc does not allow top cable entry or exit. The HVL/cc switch bottle goes completely from the front to the rear of the enclosure. Therefore, if cables come in from one direction, they must exit from the opposite direction. Also switches with top entry should be grouped together and ones with bottom entry should be grouped together. This will avoid transition sections between each top or bottom entry. This problem can be eliminated by adding extra depth to the enclosure using rear extensions. Rear extension standard depths are 16.75``, 24.00`` and 30.00``. The size of the cable bend will determine the amount of extra depth required.
