Can any of the 400 A max combination service entrance devices (CSEDs) be used for overhead applications?

Issue:
Product Design Features

Product Line:
Combination Service Entrance Devices

Resolution:
The QC816D400SL, QC816D400PSL, RC816D400SL, RC816D400PSL, QCD400SL and QCD400PSL are designed for both overhead and underground service feed.

For the rest of the 400 A CSEDs, the main utility wires CANNOT enter the top endwall of the device due to lack of wire bending space, because the meter socket is located at the top, preventing the wire from being terminated from the top.

If the main wires need to come from overhead or an overhead mast, the wires can be brought down past the device and enter either through the bottom side wall or the bottom endwall of the meter socket compartment. Square D offers an overhead feed trough (or wireway), catalog number OCK400 that can be used with ALL surface mount only, 400 A CSEDs.
