What is the difference between EE and EX transformers?
Issue:
What is the difference between EE and EX transformers?

Product Line:
Transformers

Environment:
EX and EE low voltage transformers

Cause:
Product features and application

Resolution:
There are several differences. This next level of efficiency has affected core configuration, core material, and coil sizes. The mandate also went from three significant digits to four significant digits, requiring less manufacturing variability between units.
For Non linear applications, Schneider Electric will align this solution to K-9. Based upon 25+ years of market information, the maximum K level seen by a transformer at 100% is K-7. But to allow us to third party list our products (UL® 1561), we will standardized on K-9. The K-4 and K-13 units will now be one family of products UL listed for K-9. Schneider Electric will also incorporate zigzag secondaries into the harmonic solutions.
The DOE 2016 ratings are different than the old EE TP1 ratings. Due to those differences the new EX transformers are larger than the old EE transformers. The other differences are as follows:
1. EX transformers are constructed to meet the DOE 2016 efficiency levels.
2. EX transformers have their Primary Terminals separately mounted from their Secondary Terminals for ease of installation
3. EX transformers have their core and coil assembly mounted higher up in the enclosure for increased wire bending space
4. EX transformers have reduced noise level by 3-6 dB, depending on Catalog Number
5. EX transformers offer Isolated Shields as an option
6. EX transformers offer K13 models as an option.
