Verification of Matrix-UPS input voltage configuration

Issue

How do I verify the position of the input voltage selector wire on a Matrix?

Product Line

Matrix UPS

Environment

All serial ranges

Cause

The Matrix must be configured for a 208 or a 240 environment.  The instructions in this document help the user determine the position of this selector wire without physically checking.

Resolution

The North American Matrix-UPS 3000 and 5000 units are wired at the factory for a 208 Vac input. If the Matrix-UPS is to be used in a 240 Vac environment, the Input Voltage Select Wire must be physically moved. This document describes a procedure that can be used to verify the setting.

If the unit is in place and operating, follow these steps to verify proper installation:

1 ) Go to the front display of the Matrix-UPS and access the UPS Status menu, then scroll through to check the input line voltage with the sub-menu Line = xxx.x Vac in some cases this value may not be near either 208 Vac or 240 Vac due to high or low input line.

2 ) Next, go to the menu UPS Diagnostics menu and scroll to the sub-menu UPS FW rev: xxx; on this sub-menu screen will be the revision of the Electronic Unit's UPS control microprocessor. The third x will either be a letter I or a letter M.

If there is a letter M, the Matrix-UPS Input Voltage Select Wire is attached to the 208V tap; therefore, the input voltage should be approximately 208V. If there is a letter I, the Matrix-UPS Input Voltage Select Wire is attached to the 240V tap; therefore, the input voltage should be approximately 240V.

OR

Use the UPS Setup menu. It has a sub-menu named OutVReport. If the report is set to 'Auto,' then the Output submenu under the UPS Status menu will reflect the actual output voltage from either the L6-30R or the L14-30R.  If UPS FW rev has the letter M, then the Output submenu reflects the L6-30. If UPS FW rev has the letter I, then the Output submenu reflects the L14-30.

If you are inputting 240 Vac to the Matrix-UPS, but did not change the Input Voltage Select Wire to that setting, the letter M will show under UPS FW rev: xxx; this should be a letter I. Reference the Matrix-UPS manual in order move the Input Voltage Select Wire. If this is not done, the Matrix-UPS will either stay in bypass mode or constantly change its transformer taps. Other Select Wire failures may also be displayed on the front LCD display.
