You may also want to consider resetting an appliance that is not performing properly due to unknown configuration or other potential software issues.

Resolution:

Method 1
How to restore the appliance to factory defaults if you know the admin username & password:

WARNING: When restoring the appliance to its factory defaults, only the appliance IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway settings are preserved. All other settings are reset to factory defaults by this procedure.

1: Open a web browser

2: Use the following url to reset everything except tcp/ip settings to defaults
http://<bot ip>/unconfig

3: You will be prompted for an admin username password

4: After it is entered, you will see a message on the web page that says the following:

Configuration reset requested (keeping basic network settings)....

Reset Initiated

Close the browser
The reset procedure is now complete, you will be able to log into the advanced view or basic (web) view with netbotz/netbotz

Method 2

How to restore the appliance to factory defaults if you do not know the admin username & password:

WARNING: All settings, including TCP/IP settings, are reset to factory defaults by this procedure.

1: If you have a V2 appliance, use a null modem serial cable (included with the bot) to connect the appliance to your computer system. If you have a V3 appliance, use a USBA-USBB cable(included with the netbot) to connect the appliance to your computer system.

2: Start a serial communications application (such as Hyper terminal or putty) on your computer system.

3: Configure and establish a serial connection with the appliance. Use the following serial communication settings:
  • Bits per second: 38400
  • Data bits: 8
  • Parity: none
  • Stop Bits: 1
  • Flow Control: Hardware
4: After you have successfully established a serial connection to the appliance, power-cycle the appliance. When the message:
"Hit any key to stop autoboot:"

appears on screen, press Enter to interrupt the boot process and activate the NetBotz> prompt.

5: Type at the NetBotz> prompt: configreset

and then press Enter

The appliance will erase its Flash memory, write a new default configuration, and then restart automatically.

If you need to reset the appliance with a static ip, after the Netbot reboots, let it boot fully so that you get a login prompt.
Login with either root/netbotz (V2) or root/apc (V3) and follow the prompts to reset the ip settings

You can now close the serial communications program, disconnect your console cable, and log into the appliance using the default User ID and Password of netbotz (V2) or apc (v3).
