Error HTTP Error 401.3 when accessing webreach or Web page

Issue
When accessing Webreach and/or webapplications the following page appears, indicating an ACL error 401.3. The error also indicates that 'You are not authorized to view this page'.

Error description

The error message is:
You are not authorized to view this page
You do not have permission to view this directory or page due to the access control list (ACL) that is configured for this resource on the Web server.
Please try the following:

  • Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page.
  • Click the refresh button to try again with different credentials
HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource.

  • Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the words HTTP and 401.
  • Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for topics titled About Security, Access Control, and About Custom Error messages.

Cause
IIS uses "Anonymous Authentication" to help users log in into webreach/webapplications. The above error occurs when "Authenticated Users" do not have read access to the Ion Enterprise/ Power Monitoring Expert folder.

Resolution
Grant read permission to the "Authenticated Users"  for the PME directory.

  1. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, locate the folder that contains the file that you want to browse.
  2. Right-click the folder, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Security tab.
Accessing local folder
  1. Select Edit...
  2. Grant the Read permission to the account, and then click OK.

Note: If the account of the authenticated user does not exist, select Add... and add it to the list.
