The surge suppressor is not water tight, so it needs to be mounted inside a water-tight cabinet or building. The ground cable from the suppressor must be routed in such a manner as to keep the path to earth ground as short and straight as possible. The ground cable run must minimize sharp bends and must avoid metal conduit, which cause high impedance to the very high frequency energy surge. Bends in the ground cable must be as gentle as possible, and if conduit is required, the ground cable should be run through PVC conduit.
