USB communication with SCADA Pack devices can sometimes fail due to restrictions imposed by endpoint protection software. Below are steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
Possible Cause
- DNP Secure Authentication Enabled
A common reason for this error is that secure authentication is active in the SCADAPack. - Endpoint Security Restrictions
Endpoint protection software may block USB communication. Verify with your system administrator. - Faulty USB Cable
Try using a different USB cable to rule out hardware issues.
If DNP Secure Authentication is enabled, follow these steps:
- Check Project Settings
- Navigate to the project settings and ensure the Secure Authentication Enabled option is selected.
- Connect via DNP3/TCP
· Use the IP address configured in the SCADAPack device. For this example, the default IP address is used to connect over Ethernet1.
· Establish the connection and write the configuration to the controller.
- Verify the Security
Ensure that security settings are correctly applied
- Reconnect Over USB
Change the project settings back to DNP3 USB.

Attempt the USB connection again, the connection should be successful.
