How to avoid Control Expert instability or crashes when using a Tesys Island DTM under a BMXNOC0401 DTM

Problem

When adding a Tesys Island DTM (version 3.02) under a BMXNOC0401 DTM, Control Expert may become unstable, resulting in crashes and unexpected behavior.

Cause

Although Control Expert allows adding a Tesys Island DTM under a BMXNOC0401 DTM, this configuration is not supported.

  • Tesys Island DTM is not compatible with the BMXNOC0401 DTM
  • This combination has not been tested or validated
  • The interaction leads to severe instability in ECE
  • The Load Data from Device operation causes an ECE crash 100% of the time

Important

✅ Adding Tesys Island DTM under BMXNOC0401 is technically possible
❌ This configuration is strongly discouraged and unsupported

Resolution

There is no official fix, as this configuration is not supported. The recommended solution is to avoid using Tesys Island DTM directly under the BMXNOC0401 DTM.

Use one of the supported workarounds described below.

Workarounds

Workaround 1 – Import an EDS File Generated with SoMove

  1. Use SoMove to generate an EDS file for the Tesys Island device.
  2. Import the generated EDS file under the BMXNOC0401 DTM instead of using the Tesys Island DTM directly.
  3. Configure the device using the imported EDS.

Workaround 2 – Use a Modbus TCP DTM

  1. Use a Modbus TCP communication DTM instead of the BMXNOC0401 Master DTM.
  2. Add the Tesys Island DTM under the Modbus TCP DTM.
  3. Configure and manage the Tesys Island device through this structure.
