What is the difference of using CCA630 and CCA634 connectors?

Issue

Users need to understand the differences between the CCA630 and CCA634 connectors used with SEPAM 80 Series relays and determine the correct connection method for residual current measurement applications, including 3 CT summation, toroidal current transformers, and CSH120/CSH200 sensors.

Product

  • SEPAM 80 Series Protection Relays
  • CCA630 Connector
  • CCA634 Connector
  • CSH120 and CSH200 Core Balance Current Transformers (CBCTs)
  • Toroidal Current Transformers

Environment

  • Medium Voltage Protection Systems
  • Ground Fault and Sensitive Earth Fault Applications
  • New Installations and Retrofit Projects Using SEPAM 80 Series Relays

Cause

Confusion may arise when selecting the appropriate connector for residual current measurement because the CCA630 and CCA634 connectors are designed for different sensor types and connection methods. Using the incorrect connector can result in improper wiring or incompatibility with the selected current sensing device.

Resolution

The CCA630 and CCA634 connectors are used for different residual current measurement applications in SEPAM 80 Series relays:

  • CCA630
    • Used for connection of residual current signals obtained through the 3 CT summation method.
    • Can also be used with certain toroidal current transformers depending on the application requirements.
    • Intended for standard residual current measurements where the residual signal is derived externally.
  • CCA634
    • Specifically designed for connection of CSH-type Core Balance Current Transformers (CBCTs) such as the CSH120 and CSH200.
    • Provides the appropriate interface for sensitive earth fault protection applications requiring direct connection of CSH sensors.
    • Recommended when using Schneider Electric CSH sensors for accurate residual current detection.

When selecting the connector, verify the type of current sensor being used and follow the applicable SEPAM 80 Series wiring diagrams. For detailed connection examples and wiring methods for 3 CT summation, toroidal CTs, and CSH120/CSH200 sensors, refer to the attached document.
