What are the opening and closing times of the NEMA rated contactors and starters?
Issue:
Determing response time of NEMA contactors and starters

Product Line:
NEMA Contactors and Starters

Environment:
Products sold and used in the United States

Cause:
Determining open and close times of NEMA contactors and starters

Resolution:
This information is based on internal test data under lab conditions and in no way are our products warranted to this data. Additionally, this data applies to 2 and 3 pole devices only for 8502SD & 8502SE devices; 4 and 5 pole size 2 and 3 device pick-up and dropout times may be increased slightly.

Note: All times are milliseconds.

8502SA - pick-up = 9.0 to 23.0 dropout = 5.3 to 15.9
8502SB - pick-up = 8.4 to 20.1 dropout = 2.4 to 15.9
8502SC - pick-up = 8.4 to 20.1 dropout = 2.4 to 15.9
8502SD - pick-up = 14.6 to 27.6 dropout = 16.3 to 22.8
8502SE - pick-up = 17.3 to 32.3 dropout = 9.6 to 18.7
8502SF - pick-up = 13.0 to 43.9 dropout = 11.2 to 21.7
8502SG - (Series A) pick-up = 23.5 to 68.0 dropout = 13.9 to 17.0
8502SG - (Series B) pick-up = 40.0 to 60.0 dropout = 50.0 to 75.0
8502SH - pick-up = 57.0 to 74.0 dropout = 28.3 to 31.8
8502SJ - pick-up = 43.8 nominal dropout = 54.3 nominal

The pick-up or closing time is measured from the moment the coil supply is switched on to initial contact of the main poles. The dropout or opening time is measured from the moment coil supply is switched off to the moment the main poles separate.

This applies to all 8502, 8536, 8538, 8539, 8606, 8630, 8640, 8702, 8736, 8738, 8739, 8810, 8903, 8940 (except devices with IEC contactors), and 8941 devices.
