What is the duty cycle for the ATS48 unit?

Issue:
ATS48 duty cycle

Resolution:

Standard Duty Applications

In standard duty applications, the ATS48 soft starter supports reliable motor starting under moderate stress conditions. It provides:

  • 400% of rated current (In) for up to 12 seconds, or
  • 300% of rated current (In) for up to 23 seconds
These ratings are based on a 50% load factor and allow up to 10 starts per hour, or an equivalent level of thermal cycling.

Severe Duty Applications

For more demanding applications, the ATS48 soft starter is designed to handle higher thermal stress. It provides:

  • From a cold state:
    • 400% of rated current (In) for up to 48 seconds, or
    • 300% of rated current (In) for up to 90 seconds
  • Under cyclic operation:
    • 400% of rated current (In) for up to 25 seconds, with a 50% load factor and up to 5 starts per hour, or an equivalent thermal cycling

In severe duty operation, the motor thermal protection complies with Class 20 thermal overload protection, ensuring enhanced protection for the motor under heavy-duty conditions.
