Can the LR2D or LRD overload relay with single phase sensitivity and a D-Line contactor be used on single phase applications?
Issue:
Need to use a three phase overload relay in single phase application.
Product Line:
Tesys D line overload relays
Environment:
Products sold and used in the United States
Cause:
Using a single phase sensitive overload in a single phase application
Resolution:
Yes, it is possible to use the OLR`s with single phase sensitivity on single phase motors if wired correctly. The recommended connection is to bring line side connections to terminals L1 & L3 on the contactor, jumper T1 on the overload to L2 on the contactor, and run load side connections off T2 and T3 of the overload. You must ensure current passes through all three phases or else the OLR will trip on a phase imbalance.
