Do TVSS units provide an indication of phase failure, and are they equipped with auxiliary contacts to support this functionality?

Issue:
Do TVSS units provide an indication of phase failure, and are they equipped with auxiliary contacts to support this functionality?

Product Line:
Surge Protective Devices (SPDs)

Environment:
Legacy I-Line™ IMA surge protective devices.

Cause:
Application question

Resolution:

Surgelogic HWA, EBA, EMA, and IMA series TVSS units are capable of detecting the loss of one or two phases. In such events, the internal monitoring circuitry will actuate a set of dry contacts (normally open or normally closed, depending on configuration). However, these units do not detect the loss of all three phases simultaneously. For complete phase-loss monitoring, including total power outage, a dedicated phase failure relay is required.
