How can we help you today?
On Powerpact H, J, or L frame breakers with interchangeable trip units, can you change the breaker rating by changing the trip unit?
Issue:
How do I know if I can replace the trip unit in my H, J, or L frame breaker?

Product line:
Molded case circuit breakers

Resolution:
Yes. The breaker needs to have either a T or R suffix after the amperage of the breaker (e.g. HJL36080T or HJL36060TU33X), which indicates they have a field replaceable trip unit.

The H frame electronic trip units are interchangeable among 60, 100, and 150 A. The H frame thermal magnetic trip units are interchangeable among 15-60 A and 70-150 A (ie. a 30 A can be changed to a 40 A, but cannot be changed to a 70 A)
The J frame electronic trip units are 250 A only. The J frame thermal magnetic trip units are interchangeable among 150-250 A.
The L frame trip units are electronic only, and are interchangeable up or down among 250, 400, and 600 A.
