Which Schneider Electric Drives Support AC Permanent Magnet (PM) Motors?

Resolution:
Several Schneider Electric Altivar drives support AC permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motors when configured correctly. The supported drive series include:

  • ATV32 and ATV71
  • ATV212 (requires firmware version V5.4 IE53 or later)
  • ATV320, ATV340, ATV600, and ATV900 series (modern ranges with PM motor support)
    • For open loop control: ATV320, ATV630.
    • for close loop control: ATV340, ATV930.

Set the motor control type to Synchronous Motor (SYN for ATV320, SYN and SYNU for ATV340, ATV630 and ATV930) in the drive parameters. Ensure the motor has a sinusoidal back electromotive force (EMF), as required by the drives.
Proper performance depends on accurate parameter configuration and compatible motor characteristics, so additional motor data (beyond the nameplate) is often required—refer to the motor datasheet and manufacturer for best results. Fine-tuning may be necessary during commissioning, for assistance with setup or optimization, contact Schneider Electric Drives Technical Support.
