Issue

A Modbus meter has been connected to an ION7650 or ION7550 serially via RS-485 or RS-232. The ION7x50 meter has been configured with Modgate to communicate to the Modbus device. The user wants to add this device to PME or ION Setup.

Resolution

Ensure both the Modgate meter and the Modbus device have been configured correctly.

1) Open the Management Console and click on the Sites button.

2) Right-click on the open space and select New>Ethernet Gateway Site.

3) Enter a Name for the site, and IP Address, and select port 502 as the Port Number.

4) Connect to the site.

5) Click on the Devices button.

6) Right-click in the open space and select New>Serial Device on the Ethernet Gateway Site.

7) Enter device connection information including Group, Name, Device Type, Unit ID, and the Site name created in step 3.
NOTE: If the ION6200 meter is being used as a Modbus device, select the "ION6200 (Modbus)" driver and not the "ION6200" driver.

8) Verify device communication by observing real-time data in Vista.

ION Setup

1) Open ION Setup in Network mode.

2) Right-click on the computer name and select Insert Item>Site.

3) Enter the site Name, select Ethernet, and check Gateway. Enter the IP Address of the ION Meter and choose 502 for the Port.

4) Right-click on the new site and select Insert Item>Meter.

5) Enter device Name, Type, Unit ID, and Group.

NOTE: If using an ION6200 meter, click on the Display tab and select the correct template.
- Refer to the User Guide for information on how to determine the firmware version.

6) View real-time data to confirm communication.
