What are the instantaneous operating times of a protection function?

The Sepam series 20 and series 40 manuals give the operating time for 2 types of outputs:

  • pick-up which is the non-confirmed instantaneous output: e.g. for phase O/C 50/51, T<35ms
  • instantaneous which is the output that can be used for tripping: this is the confirmed instantaneous operating time: e.g. for phase overcurrent protection 50/51, T<50ms

Note:

  • pick-up time is included in the specified operating time (the 2 times are not added together)
  • pick-up time is common to all the non-confirmed outputs of the protection functions in operation, according to the parameter setting of the matrix
