What is the short circuit current rating (SCCR) of non-fused general duty safety switches when used downstream from circuit breakers?

Article available in these languages: Spanish

Issue:
SCCR of non-fusible or unfused general duty safety switches

Product Line:
Safety Switches

Environment:
General Duty Safety Switches

Cause:
Short Circuit Current Ratings

Resolution:
First, a Non-Fused Safety Switch by itself does NOT provide any short circuit current rating because it does not contain any overcurrent protection. HOWEVER, any brand of circuit breaker or fuse not exceeding the ampere rating of the switch may be used ahead of a non-fusible safety switch when there is up to 10,000A MAXIMUM of short circuit current available.  For higher ratings, please see information below.  Evaluation of non-fused switches used in conjunction with molded case circuit breakers has NOT been performed.

For further information, please refer to the wiring diagram label inside the switch, 2D CAD drawing, printed Digest 178(2019) page 3-5 Table 3.5, or online Digest here.
