EVlink charging station has a CCID error. How do I troubleshoot it?

Issue:
EVlink Charging Station has a CCID (Charge Circuit Interrupt Device) error. What are possible causes? What troubleshooting actions can be performed?

Product Line:
PTEVC - Electric Vehicle

Environment:
UL listed EV Charging Stations

Cause:
On residential unit EV230WS, the HMI will indicate the CCID error by illuminating the power light in red and turning on the first indicator light in the circle (at the 1 o'clock position).

A Commercial EV charging station does not have the ability to show fault type.  It can only show a detected fault by illuminating the red fault indicator lamp. The fault could be any of several functional issues. CCID is one possible error.

Resolution:
There are a few possible solutions to a CCID error listed below.
Warning! - Power must be removed from the device before any tests are performed!
1. Inspect the EVSE CCID components for assembly issues. Verify that the 4 terminal PCB connector is securely assembled to the circuit board as shown in picture below. Also, verify that all wires in the connector are properly stripped and securely fastened to the terminals.

2. The CCID device is intended to detect a fault when the current differences between the phases are greater than 20mA. Before late 2012, the CCID setpoint was 5mA.   The 5 mA setpoint proved too sensitive and was thus changed to 20 mA. Residential EV Chargers with part number EV2430WS had a 5 mA setpoint. Commercial outdoor units do not have a part number change to indicate the 20 mA vs 5 mA CCID. Check the serial number of those devices (date codes starting with 11 or 12 and only 5 digits long). If the EVSE has a 5 mA setpoint, it should be replaced with a 20 mA CCID unit.

3.  CCID error can also be caused by the vehicle itself.
