How may I install more than 5, 70A (or larger) branch breakers for NQ panels?

Issue:
There is a restriction of five, 70A, and above branch circuit breakers if they require a neutral termination.  This is due to the limited number of AWG #2 and larger wire terminations available in NQ neutral assemblies.

Product Line:
NQ Panelboards

Environment:
Products sold in North America

Resolution:
NQ panelboards are manufactured with neutral assemblies with at least one wire termination for every branch circuit breaker space.  Those terminations range in size from AWG #14 - #4 to #14 – 2/0.
Branch circuit breakers larger than 60A require AWG #2 or larger cable when aluminum wiring is used.

Add-on Neutral Lugs may be selected and installed onto NQ Panelboards to enable the installation of more than five 70A+ branch circuit breakers.

  • QO70AN lugs may be installed for each 70A QOB(VH) circuit breaker requiring a neutral connection.
  • NQ100AN lugs may be installed for each 80-100A QOB(VH) circuit breaker requiring a neutral connection.
  • Either lug kit will consume two of the available AWG #s14 terminations in the NQ neutral assembly.
  • At least four, and as many as 10 lug kits may be installed onto NQ neutral assemblies.  Please contact Panelboard TAG for guidance, if required.

Please note that Q1150AN lugs may be installed onto 400 A & 600 A NQ Panelboard neutral assemblies to enable the installation of four or more 110 – 150 A QOB-(VH) branch circuit breakers and NQ200AN lugs may be installed onto 400 A or 600 A NQ panelboard neutral assemblies to enable the installation of up to four 175 – 200 A QO-VH branch circuit breakers.
