What is the minimum motor rating that can be used with an ATS22 soft starter?
Resolution:
The ATS22 soft starter is flexible and can operate motors smaller than its rated size. However, proper configuration is important to ensure reliable operation and protection. The ATS22 provides motor overload protection for motors with a Full Load Amperage (FLA) of at least 40% of the soft starter’s rated current (IcL)The motor current parameter (In) can be set within a range of:
0.4 × IcL to 1 × IcL
0.4 × IcL to 1 × IcL
If the motor’s FLA is below 40% of the soft starter rating:
- The internal overload protection may not be sufficient.
- It is recommended to install an external overload relay for proper motor protection.
Always size the soft starter as close as possible to the motor rating. If oversizing is necessary, ensure additional protection is implemented.
