PowerSCADA Expert Runtime shows "Browser not supported" for web pages such as ENM Monitoring and Control

Issue
Web pages such as Live View, ENM Configuration, and ENM Monitoring and Diagnostics display "Browser not supported" when opened inside PowerSCADA Expert Runtime.

This can occur even when the same ENM pages work correctly in supported standalone browsers outside of SCADA.

Product Line
PowerSCADA Expert 8.x
Event Notification Module 8.3.x

Note: This issue applies only to legacy PowerSCADA Expert Runtime integrations that use the embedded Internet Explorer browser control. It does not apply to modern PME / Power Operation ENM integrations.

Note: ENM was integrated into PME web applications starting with PME 2021. In modern systems, ENM is configured through the PME web applications rather than through the legacy embedded Runtime browser workflow.

Environment
PowerSCADA Expert Runtime

Cause
The browser emulation mode used by the embedded Runtime browser control may not be compatible with the requested web page. As a result, newer ENM and related web pages may report that the browser is not supported.

Resolution
Warning: This procedure requires editing the Windows registry. Incorrect registry changes can damage the operating system. Back up the registry before making any changes.

Configure the browser emulation mode for citect32.exe as follows:

  1. Open the Windows Registry Editor.
  2. Browse to the following location:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION
  3. Create the following DWORD (32-bit) value if it does not already exist:
    citect32.exe
  4. Set the value to:
    2AF8 hexadecimal
    11000 decimal
  5. Close Registry Editor.
  6. Restart PowerSCADA Expert Runtime and verify that the ENM or related web page now loads correctly.

If additional browser emulation settings are required, use the following values:

11001Internet Explorer 11. Webpages are displayed in IE11 edge mode, regardless of the !DOCTYPE directive.
11000IE11. Webpages containing standards-based !DOCTYPE directives are displayed in IE11 edge mode. Default value for IE11.
10001Internet Explorer 10. Webpages are displayed in IE10 Standards mode, regardless of the !DOCTYPE directive.
