What is the correct way to connect an externally mounted Surge Protective Device (SPD) to the panel?

Product Line:
Surge Protective Devices (SPD's)

Resolution:

An Overcurrent Protection Device (OCPD), such as a circuit breaker or fuse, must be installed for the externally mounted assembly (EMA) and should include a disconnecting means. Since the EMA's standby operation draws negligible current, it can be connected to a dedicated branch circuit or a suitable existing one.

If connected to a separate branch circuit, the OCPD's setting must protect the conductors supplying the EMA device. When connected to an existing branch circuit, the conductors connected to the EMA device must have an ampacity equal to or greater than the setting of the existing OCPD.
