What is clamping voltage?
Product Line:
Surge Protective Devices (SPDs)
Environment:
UL 1449 3rd edition
Resolution:
This is the voltage level at which the surge protection device clips and clamps the voltage at dissipating the overvoltage from damaging the connected downstream devices. The current measurement of clamping voltages is called VPR (voltage protection rating) as referenced in the current UL 1449 3rd edition standards for testing. This is achieved and determined by applying 6000 V and 3000 A to the SPD to obtain the VPR levels.
