How do I troubleshoot an Altivar Process Drive that would not connect or communicate to a DeviceNet device or network?
Issue:
Altivar Process Drive that will not connect or communicate with a DeviceNet device or network.
Resolution:
Note: This FAQ goes over some basic checks and troubleshooting tips. For extended troubleshooting please refer to your drives DeviceNet manual.
Drive Will Not Connect
- Communication Module
- DeviceNet is not integrated on the Altivar Process drives. Must use module VW3A3609.
- The VW3A3609 Fieldbus module, with a minimum V1.6IE01 firmware version, is compliant with the Altivar process product range.
- Only one communication module can be used at a time
- Installation
- Module must be inserted in Slot A ONLY at the bottom of the control part.
- Pin Layout - Make use to use proper pinouts
- Isolate any electrical interference
- Use conduits
- Separate control and power connections
- Add terminating resistors if the drive is at the end or the last of device in the network.
- Network
- Check for any duplicate addresses on the network.
- Check to make sure you have proper configured assemblies
- Programming
- Check Basic Settings on the drive. Make sure the following is set:
- IP Address
- Baud Rate
- Data rate used
- Make sure drive is power cycled after any Communication settings are changed.
- Check for properly configures assemblies

- Check LEDs on the drive
- See Fieldbus Status LEDs, LED MS Network Status and LED MS Module Status attachments
- Drive Connects But Will Not Run
- Check LEDs on the drive
- Network
- Verify you can read from the drive
- Verify reading and write to correct Modbus registers
- Programming on the Drive
- Confirm drive is setup for Network Control
- Check Command and Reference Menu
