What information is needed to select a motor starter?
Issue:
What do I need to know to pick a starter?

Product Line:
NEMA and IEC style Motor Starters

Environment:
US Products

Cause:
Product Selection

Resolution:
To start with it is recommended to know at least:

Does the customer have a preference for NEMA vs IEC vs Definite Purpose style starters?
Is the motor single or three phase?
Reversing or non-reversing application?
The voltage, horse power, and full load amps of the motor
What kind of, if any, enclosure is needed
The control voltage
if this is different than motor voltage also find out if a control transformer is needed or if the customer will be supplying a seperate source of voltage
Are any accessories necesarry, and what kind?
IE start stop push buttons, HOA switch, pilot lights, etc
Is this a manual starter application, or a full voltage starter?
Is this a combination device?
If so do we need a fusible, non-fusible, or circuit breaker type?

Note: This is just a starting point, each application is different and this is just a general guideline to get started selecting a device.
