Are Altivar keypads (HMIs) plug‑and‑play?

Resolution:

Yes, the currently supported Altivar keypads with part numbers VW3A1101 and VW3A1111 are plug‑and‑play.

When a compatible keypad is connected to an Altivar drive, the drive will automatically detect it. The keypad’s LCD screen should display drive information almost immediately after connection.

This automatic detection applies whether the keypad is:

  • Plugged directly into the front of the drive, or
  • Connected remotely using a Modbus cable

No additional configuration is required for the keypad to operate.
