How do you control the speed of an Altivar 630 or Altivar 930 drive using the local HMI?

Resolution:

To control the motor speed of an Altivar 630 drive from the local HMI, you must change the speed reference source from the factory default (analog input) to the HMI. Follow the steps below from the drive keypad.

Configure Speed Control from the Local HMI

  1. Enter the Main Menu on the drive.
  2. Navigate to:
Main Menu → Complete Settings → Command and Reference
  3. Set the following parameters:
    • HMI CMD → Set to Bumpless
(Default is Disabled; this prevents sudden speed changes when switching control sources.)
    • Ref Freq 1 Config → Change from AI1 (factory default) to Ref Freq – Rmt Term

Important Additional Setting

  • If the Start/Stop command comes from the terminals, but speed control is performed from the HMI, you must change the Control Mode to Separate.
  • This allows different sources to be used for command (Run/Stop) and reference (Speed).
