Why Won’t the Keypad Power On When I Start My Altivar, Altistart, or Process Drive?

Resolution:

If the keypad does not power on when you apply power to your Altivar, Altistart, or Process Drive, the issue may be related to the drive rather than the keypad itself. Check the following possible causes:

Verify the keypad connection
Press firmly on the keypad to ensure it is fully seated and making good electrical contact.

Check control supply voltages
Using a meter, measure DC voltage at the control terminals:

+24 V to COM

+10 V to COM
If these voltages are missing or low, the drive is likely the source of the problem.

Test with another keypad (if removable)
If the keypad can be removed, try a known-good keypad from another drive of the same product family to rule out a keypad failure.

Identify low-voltage supply issues

The 10 V supply is generated on the control board. If available, replacing the control board may resolve the issue.

The 24 V supply is provided directly from the power board, so a fault there may indicate a power board issue.

Inspect internal connections
In applications with vibration or recent installations, and if the control board is front-removable, check the ribbon cable and internal connectors behind the keypad for loose or damaged connections.
