How to enable Logon as service privilege for a local Windows user

DISCLAIMER

The example below is  intended to demonstrate one or more features or methods and is presented as a configuration example only. Schneider Electric assumes no liability for the use or application of this example or any portion thereof.

Some features in ClearSCADA need a Windows account with proper privileges to be set in the “Server Configuration” tool. As an example, in order to the “Backup” object to work, the end user should set a proper Windows account at “Server Configuration > System Configuration > Backup”, and this user must have the “Log on as a service” privilege.
Below you will find a step by step procedure on how to set the privilege for a local Windows account. This example shows Windows 10 dialog boxes, but should work on other Windows versions.
We will assign the “Log on as a service” privilege to local Windows account named “BackupUser”:
  1. Run “gpedit.msc”, it will open the “Local Group Policy Editor” tool;
  2. Go to “Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment” and double click on the “Log on as a service” policy:
  1. At the “Log on as a service Properties” dialog box, click on “Add User or Group”:
  1. At the “Select Users or Goups” dialog box, enter the user name and click on “Check Names”:

  1. Click on “OK”:

  1. Now the user should be added to the list; Click “OK”:

Now the user “BackupUser” can be used on ClearSCADA configuration.
Please note that other ClearSCADA features may need Windows users with other privileges, you can use the same procedure to add other privileges to that particular Windows user.
