Can Type S starters in NEMA 12 enclosures be modified for use in NEMA 3 R applications?

Yes, NEMA 12 enclosures can be field modified for 3R applications by: (1) adding watertight conduit hubs or equivalent provisions for watertight connection at the conduit entrance when entrance is at a level higher than the lowest live part. (2) Adding two drain holes 1/8`` diameter to the bottom of the enclosure. Any product listed as NEMA 12/3R may be field modified with no affect to the UL Listing.
