Are all the 30 - 600 A heavy duty safety switches UL listed as suitable for use as service equipment?
Issue:
Product design features

Product Line:
Heavy Duty Safety Switches

Resolution:
Yes, most 2 and 3 pole, single throw, heavy duty safety switches are suitable for use as service entrance equipment when equipped with a field or factory installed neutral assembly or service ground kit, unless a 600Y/347 or 480Y/277 V, 1000 A or greater, solidly grounded wye system is used, per the National Electrical Code. There are exceptions to the service equipment listing, see notes below.
NOTES:
1)None of the 4 or 6 pole heavy duty safety switches accept solid neutral assemblies. Therefore, they would NOT be service entrance rated.
2) For special application switches, see each individual catalog numbers in current Digest or contact Square D/Schneider Electric for more details.
3) If the switch is older and already installed, check the wiring diagram to see if it states that it is suitable for use as service equipment.
