Service Entrance rating
Yes, IN GENERAL, most 2 and 3-pole single-throw Heavy Duty Safety Switches are suitable for use as service entrance equipment when equipped with a field or factory installed Neutral Assembly or Service Ground kit, unless a 600Y/347 volt or 480Y/277 volt, 1000 ampere or greater, solidly grounded Wye system is used, per the National Electrical Code. There are exceptions to the service equipment listing, see notes below.
1) ALL 4 and 6 Pole Heavy Duty Safety Switches DO NOT accept solid neutral assemblies. Therefore, they would NOT be Service Entrance Rated.
2) For Special Application switches, see each individual catalog numbers in current Digest or contact Square D/Schneider Electric for more details.
3) For Double Throw Safety Switches, see FA87564.
4) For General Duty Safety Switches, see FA99901
5) For 800 and 1200Amp Heavy Duty Safety Switches see FA118984
6) If the switch is older and already installed, CHECK the wiring diagram to see if it shows a solid neutral assembly or service/equipment ground kit part number. If NOT, then it doesn't allow or have a solid neutral or ground kit that can be installed.
