Can a general duty or heavy duty safety switch be backfed (or reverse fed) by attaching the incoming line wires to the load side of the switch?

Resolution:
No, safety switches cannot be back fed, as that would lead the blades to be hot, regardless of handle position, and the wiring diagrams are marked line on the top and load on the bottom.
