Can Type K cable be used with an ATV212 drive?
Resolution:
Type K cable is not recommended for use with the ATV212 because this cable type was not included in the product’s verification and validation testing.
Type K cable may use conductors as small as 30 AWG, which have a smaller cross-sectional area than the conductors evaluated during ATV212 testing. Because of the smaller conductor size, individual strands could be damaged or broken when the terminal is tightened to the specified torque.
The ATV212 was tested with the following conductor classifications:
- Class 5 per IEC 60228
- Class C per UL 486A
For this reason, the use of Type K cable cannot be recommended or guaranteed for safe operation. Use cable that meets the conductor specifications validated for the ATV212.
