MODBUS-SL difference with MODBUS RTU

Issue:

The PAS600 documentation refers to MODBUS-SL to describe this communication protocol  as available in the product. There is no reference about the specific serial communication protocol named MODBUS RTU.

Product Line:

EcoStruxture Panel Server

Environment:

Industrial communication networks and protocols

Cause:

Technical terminology for communication protocols.

Resolution:

MODBUS-SL (Serial Line) is a way to name the complete serial line protocol, because there is 2 different modes to communicate in serial mode: the RTU mode and the ASCII mode. Each of them, defines the bit contents of message fields transmitted serially on the line and It determines how information is packed into the message fields and decoded.

In summary, when MODBUS-SL is referred as available, you can use either RTU or ASCII communication mode.
