Getting error message about a link-local IP address when configuration an Ethernet module in Control Expert

Resolution

The error you are getting is because you are trying to configure the IP Address on the Link-Local subnet range. Also known as Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA). This is reserved IP for 169.254.0.0/16 (169.254.0.0 - 169.254.255.255). This subnet block is reserved for devices to use in the event an IP Address cannot be assigned through proper channels like DHCP.
