When is a 3-point latch system required in a panelboard?

Issue:

A customer wanted to know if we can use NC74VS, instead of NC74VS3PNF in panels. Is there any reason why the L-frame needs the 3-point latch?

Product Line:

NQ/NF Panelboards

Resolution:

The PowerPact L frame main breaker interior requires the trim with the 3-point latch to meet the short circuit testing.

The vented trims with the 3-point latch vault handle are required when the main breaker is a PowerPact L frame.\

If you are using an L-frame Main breaker. You can't use the standard trim it has to be a 3-point latch

UL Short Circuit Testing dictates which locking system is required to meet their test criteria.
