Maintaining the security of SCADAPack 474i and 470i devices is critical, particularly when managing remote access. One essential security measure is updating the Edge password. This document outlines the procedure for changing the Edge password using SSH access through PuTTY.
Prerequisites
Before proceeding, ensure the following:
- PuTTY is installed on your workstation. PuTTY is a free SSH and telnet client available for Windows.
- Network access to the SCADAPack device is established. This can be achieved via:
- USB connection using IP address 10.2.3.4
- Ethernet connection through the ETH3 port
Procedure
- Launch PuTTY and configure the session:
- Set Connection Type to SSH
- Enter the Host Name (or IP address) as 10.2.3.4 (for USB connection)
- Leave the Port set to the default value 22
- Click Open to initiate the SSH session
- Authenticate using the current Edge credentials.
- Once logged in, execute the following command to initiate the password change: passwd
- The system will prompt you to enter the new password.
Password Recovery
If the Edge password has been lost or forgotten, it cannot be recovered. In such cases, the password can be reset by performing a factory boot on the device.
